IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING UPCOMING EOLA CAPITAL COMMUNITY MEETING

Friends & Neighbors,

Commissioner Shehan has sent out this notice of a public meeting regarding Eola Capital’s pending deal with the City of Orlando. As you may know, many residents opposed Eola Capital’s plans to raze four historic houses which they own across the street from Eola Park to build a high density development. In response to the public outcry, Eola Capital proposed trading the houses to the city in exchange for part of Eola Park at the corner of Eola and Central. Many of you know this as the location of the Sunday Farmers Market and the location of a large clump of mature live oak trees. The developer’s plans have been published in the Sentinel 😦http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/orlandosentinel/access/1541570831.html?dids=1541570831:1541570831&FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&date=Aug+27%2C+2008&author=Jerry+W+Jackson&pub=Orlando+Sentinel&edition=&startpage=B.1&desc=Land+swap+would+give+houses+to+city).

In my opinion, the developers proposal is insensitive to the urban fabric of the city and would unnecessarily destroy the trees, the market, and the design continuity of that portion of Eola Park. This project lies within Commissioner Shehan’s district, but Eola Park is Orlando’s signature park and of concern to all Orlando residents. If you are concerned with preserving these important features of Eola Park, I urge you to attend this public meeting and let your voice be heard. The meeting is at 6:30 PM Wednesday 15 October at Howard Middle School.

I hope to see you there.

Thank you.
