November 1, 2011

Ms. Mills,

I would like to take this opportunity to give you our sixtieth monthly update on the project.

We got the final report today that details the operation and maintenance of the system for the last period of operation.  This report also provides Argus recommendation for Post Active Remediation Monitoring (PARM), which we intend to approve. In the next few weeks, we will send our review letter to Argus and approve a quarterly PARM plan for them to get started on monitoring.   All of the milestone wells are below target levels.  Monitoring well DW-11 had on constituent above target levels when it was last sampled on September 27, 2011, which was Benzene at 9.7 µg/L.   This well will be part of the quarterly monitoring and is expected to attenuate.  One idea we are considering is to overpurge this well or to replace this well with a new well adjacent to it.

I propose that I provide updates on a quarterly basis from now on the contractor will only be coming to sample the wells on a quarterly basis.  Please let me know if you would prefer more frequent updates and I will be happy to give them.  Otherwise, below are the tentative dates for the next four updates:

Ø       February 1, 2012

Ø       May 1, 2012

Ø       August 1, 2012

Ø       November 1, 2012

As always, please feel free to call me anytime if you need additional information or have any questions.

Thank you,

Monthly update for Sellers Auto / Artist Studio petroleum cleanup site 489201547 / 489201548 (Update # 56)‏

July 1, 2011

Ms. Mills,

I would like to take this opportunity to give you our fifty-sixth monthly update on the project.

General Status:

There have not been any major changes with the operational strategy or sampling plan for the site in several months.  Yesterday, Argus performed the annual sampling event.  I expect in two weeks, we will have new groundwater data to share.  The next report is the annual one, which is due on July 12, 2011.

A professional recommendation to turn the system off and enter monitoring or to continue to operate the system for another quarterly period will be in this report.

System Runtime & Performance:

We have received no notices of downtime lately.   All air sparging wells are showing high flow rates as designed.  Three of the multiphase treatment well network of 26 (originally 24) are turned off.  In other words, there are only 23 vapor recovery wells being used to capture vapors.   Only the ones in the area of the contamination are being used to recover groundwater.   The target area is still the isolated area around monitoring wells MW-5, AW-10 & AW-28.   Surprisingly, with the heavy rain events we have been getting the infiltration gallery has continued to perform well.

Report Status

As stated above, the Year Four Quarter Four report is due on July 12, 2011.  This one will include a milestone evaluation and a professional recommendation for the next course of action.   I recently created a new work order to run the system for 90 days after this period, just in case it is needed.  However, it is possible this report may have a recommendation to turn the system off.

Milestone Update:

There isn’t a new milestone evaluation for this update.  In the past one, we had all wells having met milestones for the first time.   The site showed the lowest levels of contamination yet at that time – the groundwater sampling event of March 2011.

I will not be able to submit the update on August 1st because I will be out of town, but I will send it on August 2nd 2011.  However, I will likely contact you in the middle of the month with the new data before the monthly report.

I hope you have a great Fourth of July weekend.  Please feel free to call me anytime if you need additional information or have any questions.

Thank you,

Damon Taylor

Damon:
As always, thank you very much for giving our neighborhood the monthly heads-up on cleanup progress at this site.
The number of reports tells the tale of your diligence in keeping us well-informed since the project started over 4 years ago.
We look forward to the annual summary of operations at the site in the next report.
Best regards,
Louise

Ms. Mills,

I would like to take this opportunity to give you our fifty-fifth monthly update on the project.     I’m sending this update a day early because I will be in training (unavailable by e-mail) on Wednesday June 1st.

General Status:

There have not been any major changes with the operational strategy or sampling plan for the site since the last update.   Nor have there been any periods of down time or reported operational problems.   The last time the groundwater was sampled was in mid March, so the next time we should have data would be sometime after mid June.   Therefore, we should have new groundwater data for you in the next update as long as I am able to get it ahead of the next report, which is due on July 12, 2011.   This report will be a significant one because it’s an annual report, which is to summarize the fourth year of operation.

In the last update, I mentioned that the spare soil vapor extraction blowers still wasn’t fixed, but this was fixed since the last update.  Now, the other soil vapor extraction blower needs some maintenance.  I am not sure if the other one is operable, but if it isn’t, we again have two soil vapor extraction blowers, of which only one is operable.   This hasn’t affected run time or efficiency though.  The goal is to rotate between the two of them periodically to ensure reliability.

Even with the occasional heavy rains, the infiltration gallery has continued to perform well.

I look forward to sending the next update on July 1, 2011.  Please feel free to call me anytime if you need additional information or have any questions.
