Community Involvement Opportunity

As you know, I am on the Board of Ivanhoe Village Main Street – an organization dedicated to improving the commercial corridor along Orange Avenue from Magnolia to Florida Hospital. I have agreed to head the Promotions Committee that will plan festivals and public events, and am seeking other neighbors to work on this committee. We will be hosting four events or festivals a year. These could be anything from a snowman-building contest around Christmas, to a summer surf music fest in the park. Whatever ideas you have for an event, we need to hear them and we need your help to make them happen.

Ivanhoe Village Kickoff Event April 26th

Ivanhoe Village Main Street was approved by the City Council yesterday and is up and running.  This is the organization that we heard about at our last meeting that is made up of businesses, cultural organizations, Florida Hospital, and community representatives, and is devoted to promoting the Orange Avenue corridor from Magnolia to Florida Hospital as a community “main street” providing recreation, culture, commerce and health care to our community.  This group plans to eventually expand into the commercial parts of our neighborhood along Virginia and Alden.  I believe that we share many of the same long term goals as this group.  Ivanhoe Village is planning a kickoff event to celebrate its inception on Saturday 26 April.  This event will feature live music, refreshments, activities for the kids, and various other activities sponsored by the member organizations and businesses.

-Gordon Spears, Vice President
