Ivanhoe Spruce Up – June 23

Ivanhoe Village Main Street is teaming with Green Up Orlando, Keep Orlando Beautiful, and Summit Church to clean and green the Loch Haven Neighborhood Center and surrounding neighborhoods. We’ll be planting, mulching, painting, sprucing up — and having lots of fun! Water, light snacks and all needed supplies are provided.

We’re going to need your help! All ages may participate. This is a great family volunteer activity and students may earn community service hours. No children under 14 may participate without direct adult supervision. Those between 14 and 18 attending without their parent must have a signed minor release form from parent or legal guardian. A form may be requested and brought with child the day of the event.

Volunteer spots are limited and fill quickly, and you must register by June 20. Call Jody Buyas of Keep Orlando Beautiful at 407.246.2752 or e-mail her at jody.buyas@cityoforlando.net. Looking forward to a great turnout from the neighborhood!

Ivanhoe Village Jingle Eve Nov. 18th – 6p – 10p

Merchant Announcement Letter

This year’s Jingle Eve Holiday Open House will be November 18 from 6pm until 10pm and will span Orange Ave and down to Alden and up Virginia Drive. The Ivanhoe Village Board of Directors is eager to work with you to make this annual event the best attended ever and are working diligently to create lots of “Wow Factor” additions to this Ivanhoe Village tradition. Some of the activities planned include:

  • Live Holiday Music
  • Santa Claus
  • Strolling Dickens Christmas Carol Characters
  • Dancers from the Nutcracker Ballet
  • Toys for Tots Donation Box
  • Boat Parade on Lake Ivanhoe
  • Wine Strolls

We can’t think of a better way to ring in the holiday season than to showcase your business to the thousands of diners and shoppers who will visit our Ivanhoe Village Main Street!Of course, to pull off such an event, we need your help and there are a number of ways you can contribute.

First, for those of you who have donated in the past, would you consider donating again? Donations help pay for entertainment, flyers, posters, print advertising, equipment rental and permits. To donate, call 407-393-8765 or email: IvanhoeVillageMS@gmail.com or make your check payable to Ivanhoe Village and mail to: 1611-A Alden Rd Suite E Orlando, FL 32803.

Second, if you would like to bring in an artist or entertainer or even promote your own business on the street, consider hosting a booth. A booth consists of a table and two chairs and is available for $20.00. We will highlight your business and/or booth in our Jingle Eve map which will be handed out the day of the event.

Third, holiday string lights will be installed by volunteers for special price of $25.00 which includes a 100 bulb string lights will be placed outside of your business, and will be yours to keep. Installation of your own lights is available for $15.00. Your reservation and payment is required by Friday, November 4th. Volunteers will be here to hang the lights on Thursday the 17th of November in preparation for the Jingle Eve event. If you can donate food to feed these hungry volunteers that would be great.

In addition to the holiday decorations that you display in your business, holiday lights and other decorations will be placed in some of the more dimly-lit areas of Orange Avenue for a continuous festive feeling all along the avenue. This will also connect the merchants south of Gaston-Edwards Park and the merchants on Virginia Drive to the festivities to the north. We recommend keeping these lights up throughout the Holiday Season.

Fourth, we need volunteers on Friday afternoon from 1pm until 4pm to set up the event, from 6pm until 10pm during the event and from 10 pm on to tear down after the event on Friday night.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we thank you for all your ideas and assistance and look forward to your participation in this year’s Jingle Eve.

Happy Holidays!

Gaston Edwards Park (Lake Ivanhoe) City Planning Meeting

Today, Wedsnesday May 19th
4:00 pm-6:00 pm
Bob Swanson’s Ivanhoe Row building at 1219 N. Orange Avenue

As was briefly discussed at our last Lake Formosa Neighborhood Association meeting, there is to be a meeting this Wednesday regarding the City’s plans for Gaston Edwards Park (Lake Ivanhoe). Several of the merchants from Ivanhoe Village will be there and Lake Formosa Neighborhood should also well represented. Some businesses will be pushing the City to provide more parking in the park, which will mean less green space unfortunately. In addition the Florida Dept. of Transportation needs to restore one of the southbound travel lanes along Orange to parking as it used to be. This was something that we asked for during our discussions with FDOT regarding the Orange Avenue resurfacing, but they were not willing to consider this, even though the numerical projections support it.

Please come represent Lake Formosa Neighborhood and help preserve the Park from future encroachments including additional asphalt paving.

Important Meeting Tuesday 6/30 re: Lake Highland/Spellman Property

See the meeting info here: Tues_June30th_Meeting

The public meeting to discuss the upcoming Lake Highland Prep sports complex PD will be June 30 at 7pm in the Performing Arts Center on the Lake Highland school campus. The gate near the swimming pool will be open. As you may know, our Lake Formosa Neighborhood Association had a hand in crafting the previous PD for the site. The new PD is a substantial change from the original. This is also the site of the Spelman Engineering contamination site which our Association has been tirelessly lobbying the City to clean up, which the City has recently allocated funding to do. As a part of the funding for the cleanup, the City has sold much of the property to Lake Highland Prep School to develop as a sports complex.

Many of our commercial neighbors of Ivanhoe Village along South Orange Avenue, however, are gravely concerned because the City has sold the 2.5 acre existing public parking lot on Alden to the School who is closing the lot in August. Without this public parking, the businesses along South Orange Avenue will have insufficient parking available for their employees and customers, and many will likely abandon the Ivanhoe Village district.

I’m sure that, like me, you would like to see our neighborhood commercial district thrive and prosper, but without adequate parking, it will more likely wither and be converted into offices. The public meeting next Tuesday is the best chance for us to convince the City to continue to provide adequate parking for our neighborhood commercial district. I hope that you will attend this important public meeting.

Thank you.
