Subject: Monthly update for Sellers Auto / Artist Studio petroleum cleanup site 489201547 / 489201548 update #60)

November 1, 2011

Ms. Mills,

I would like to take this opportunity to give you our sixtieth monthly update on the project.

We got the final report today that details the operation and maintenance of the system for the last period of operation.  This report also provides Argus recommendation for Post Active Remediation Monitoring (PARM), which we intend to approve. In the next few weeks, we will send our review letter to Argus and approve a quarterly PARM plan for them to get started on monitoring.   All of the milestone wells are below target levels.  Monitoring well DW-11 had on constituent above target levels when it was last sampled on September 27, 2011, which was Benzene at 9.7 µg/L.   This well will be part of the quarterly monitoring and is expected to attenuate.  One idea we are considering is to over-purge this well or to replace this well with a new well adjacent to it.

I propose that I provide updates on a quarterly basis from now on the contractor will only be coming to sample the wells on a quarterly basis.  Please let me know if you would prefer more frequent updates and I will be happy to give them.  Otherwise, below are the tentative dates for the next four updates:

Ø       February 1, 2012

Ø       May 1, 2012

Ø       August 1, 2012

Ø       November 1, 2012

As always, please feel free to call me anytime if you need additional information or have any questions.

Thank you,

Damon Taylor

Ivanhoe Village Jingle Eve Nov. 18th – 6p – 10p

Merchant Announcement Letter

This year’s Jingle Eve Holiday Open House will be November 18 from 6pm until 10pm and will span Orange Ave and down to Alden and up Virginia Drive. The Ivanhoe Village Board of Directors is eager to work with you to make this annual event the best attended ever and are working diligently to create lots of “Wow Factor” additions to this Ivanhoe Village tradition. Some of the activities planned include:

  • Live Holiday Music
  • Santa Claus
  • Strolling Dickens Christmas Carol Characters
  • Dancers from the Nutcracker Ballet
  • Toys for Tots Donation Box
  • Boat Parade on Lake Ivanhoe
  • Wine Strolls

We can’t think of a better way to ring in the holiday season than to showcase your business to the thousands of diners and shoppers who will visit our Ivanhoe Village Main Street!Of course, to pull off such an event, we need your help and there are a number of ways you can contribute.

First, for those of you who have donated in the past, would you consider donating again? Donations help pay for entertainment, flyers, posters, print advertising, equipment rental and permits. To donate, call 407-393-8765 or email: IvanhoeVillageMS@gmail.com or make your check payable to Ivanhoe Village and mail to: 1611-A Alden Rd Suite E Orlando, FL 32803.

Second, if you would like to bring in an artist or entertainer or even promote your own business on the street, consider hosting a booth. A booth consists of a table and two chairs and is available for $20.00. We will highlight your business and/or booth in our Jingle Eve map which will be handed out the day of the event.

Third, holiday string lights will be installed by volunteers for special price of $25.00 which includes a 100 bulb string lights will be placed outside of your business, and will be yours to keep. Installation of your own lights is available for $15.00. Your reservation and payment is required by Friday, November 4th. Volunteers will be here to hang the lights on Thursday the 17th of November in preparation for the Jingle Eve event. If you can donate food to feed these hungry volunteers that would be great.

In addition to the holiday decorations that you display in your business, holiday lights and other decorations will be placed in some of the more dimly-lit areas of Orange Avenue for a continuous festive feeling all along the avenue. This will also connect the merchants south of Gaston-Edwards Park and the merchants on Virginia Drive to the festivities to the north. We recommend keeping these lights up throughout the Holiday Season.

Fourth, we need volunteers on Friday afternoon from 1pm until 4pm to set up the event, from 6pm until 10pm during the event and from 10 pm on to tear down after the event on Friday night.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we thank you for all your ideas and assistance and look forward to your participation in this year’s Jingle Eve.

Happy Holidays!

Monthly update for Sellers Auto / Artist Studio petroleum cleanup site 489201547 / 489201548 update #59A)‏

Good afternoon,

As a follow-up to the update at the beginning of October, I have good news:  all of the milestone wells that were sampled on September 27th were below cleanup target wells again this time.  Therefore, the system will remain off and prepared for long term storage.

However, one well did show a slight concentration of Benzene though.  Monitoring well DW-11 which has historically had low concentrations of Benzene had 9.6 µg/L of it this time. This will be monitored and will not require the system to be turned back on since this well is a 55 ft deep well and the treatment wells are 20 ft deep.  Tentatively, we plan on over-purging that well or a well nearby address this.

Please feel free to call me anytime if you need additional information or have any questions.  Have a great weekend.

Sunrail

Of the Mayor’s list of the benefits of SunRail, these three are probably the most important for our neighborhood:

“Help for the Elderly and Handicapped
• SunRail will give the elderly and handicapped residents of Central Florida a new means of transportation and enhanced ability to be self-reliant.

Bolstering Home Prices and Strengthening the Real Estate Market Against Future Downturns
• Within 20 years, property owners can expect an increase of almost nine times their current value for property values within one-half mile of station stops.

Access to Jobs and Opportunities
• SunRail will give residents expanded access to jobs. Conversely, the 61-mile commuter train will give employers access to a much broader base of potential employees.”

If you support SunRail, and I believe that is the consensus of our most of our neighbors, please email or call the Governor’s office and tell him so.

Subject: Voice Your Support for SunRail

Are you tired of traffic jams on I-4?
Are you looking for an alternative to rising gas prices?

We are on the verge of having a solution to those and many other challenges….SunRail.

SunRail is a 61-mile commuter line that would run from Deland to Poinciana. There will be four stops in Downtown Orlando at Florida Hospital, LYNX Central Station, Church Street and Orlando Health Medical Center.

Governor Scott and his team are in the final days of a review period and we need your help in making sure that the Governor knows that this project is a priority for Central Florida.

The strength of Central Florida is reinforced each and every time we stand together behind projects of regional significance.

There are many throughout Florida who do not support SunRail and they have shared that with Governor Scott.

It is important that your voice of support is heard. Please write a letter or email Governor Scott, let him know that you live/work/play in Orlando and you support SunRail.

Below is a list of benefits that may assist you in writing Governor Scott in support of SunRail.

SunRail: What’s in it for ME?
Real World Benefits of SunRail

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!
• SunRail’s construction will create 10,000 desperately needed jobs, almost immediately.
• Over the next 30 years, SunRail will create more than 250-thousand jobs and generate an economic impact of more than 8-billion dollars

An Answer to Skyrocketing Gas Prices
• As our community is faced with a future of 4 or even 5 and 6 dollar-a-gallon gas, SunRail will give Central Florida’s residents a less expensive alternative to their automobiles.

An Alternative to Congested Roads
• SunRail will carry the equivalent of one lane of traffic on Interstate 4, providing a viable travel alternative to our increasingly-congested roadways.

A Quicker, More Reliable Commute
• Say goodbye to standing still on the highway during rush hour. SunRail will offer residents reliable, on-time transit that is not susceptible to long delays because of congestion or traffic accidents.

No More “Lost Time” Sitting in a Car
• Rather than sitting in a car, SunRail riders will be free to attend to the details of life while they are commuting, instead of focusing on driving.
• SunRail’s Wi-Fi-enabled cars will offer travelers the ability to work while they travel.

Reduced Sprawl, Smarter Growth
• SunRail will allow for the development of more walkable, livable communities.

Improvements to Florida’s Port and Freight Rail System
• The purchase of SunRail’s tracks from CSX comes with a unique commitment that every penny of the 432-million sale price be re-invested in Florida’s transportation infrastructure.
• This means SunRail will result directly in an increase in global trade in Florida by improving connectivity between our ports and major markets in northern states.

The Foundation for the Creation of More Mass Transit Options
• Planning is already underway to expand downtown Orlando’s free bus circulator, Lymmo, to connect with and compliment SunRail. SunRail will act as a catalyst for other Central Florida cities to expand mass transit options.

A Cleaner, Healthier Environment
• SunRail will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and our community’s overall carbon footprint.

Help for the Elderly and Handicapped
• SunRail will give the elderly and handicapped residents of Central Florida a new means of transportation and enhanced ability to be self-reliant.

Bolstering Home Prices and Strengthening the Real Estate Market Against Future Downturns
• Within 20 years, property owners can expect an increase of almost nine times their current value for property values within one-half mile of station stops.

Access to Jobs and Opportunities
• SunRail will give residents expanded access to jobs. Conversely, the 61-mile commuter train will give employers access to a much broader base of potential employees.

Reducing our Reliance on Foreign Oil
• Every year our country gives 700 billion dollars away to the Middle East and other oil rich economies. This dependence threatens our economy. More important than money, this reliance on foreign oil threatens the safety of all Americans as our oil addiction helps feed the coffers of terrorist organizations bent on killing US citizens.
• SunRail is one part of a much larger energy strategy that would reduce Central Florida and America’s dependence on foreign oil.

A New Tool to Attract Companies
• Research has consistently indicated that superior mass transit options significantly aid in a community’s ability to attract new businesses to their metropolitan region.

A More Cost-Effective Way to Move People
• SunRail’s capital construction costs are $615 million dollars.
• The cost to expand I-4 to carry the same amount of people as SunRail would exceed $4 billion dollars.

A Smart Investment for our Future
• Every dollar invested in transportation yields approximately $5.60 in economic benefits to the state of Florida.

Monthly update for Sellers Auto / Artist Studio petroleum cleanup site 489201547 / 489201548 (Update # 54)‏

May 2, 2011

Ms. Mills,

I would like to take this opportunity to give you our fifty-fourth monthly update on the project.

General Status:

I am currently reviewing the year four quarter three report and it contains the data and updated milestones (see below for milestone summary).  The run time has been good and there hasn’t been any down time notices lately.  An expanded evaluation of the milestone data from last update is included here.

System Runtime & Performance:

The run time has been pretty good.   All of the air sparging wells is showing good flow to the subsurface as designed.  Three of the multiphase treatment well network of 26 (originally 24) are turned off.  In other words there are only 23 vapor recovery wells being used to capture vapors.   Only the ones in the area of the contamination are being used to recover groundwater.   The target area is still the isolated area around monitoring wells MW-5, AW-10 & AW-28.  The soil vapor extraction blowers (the spare) problem I reported on last month still hasn’t been fixed.  We have two soil vapor extraction blowers, of which only one is operable.   This hasn’t affected run time or efficiency though since of them is a spare and the intent is to rotate periodically between them.    There still hasn’t been any shutdowns or problems caused by the infiltration gallery getting overwhelmed from heavy rain events.

Report Status

I am currently reviewing the Year Four Quarter Three report (received 04/12/11).   The next report is the Year Four Quarter Four (the annual report) and is due on July 12, 2011.  A milestone evaluation from this report is summarized below.

 Milestone Update:

For the first time, all wells have met milestones.  The site has the lowest amount of contamination to date, with only minor concentrations in two wells.

·       AW-10 – This well is completely below groundwater target levels for the first time.

            Benzene -not detected March 17, 2011 (8.1 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Ethyl benzene - not detected March 17, 2011 (145 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Total Xylenes - not detected March 17, 2011 (147 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Naphthalene - not detected March 17, 2011 (23.4 ug/L November 4, 2010)

·       AW-28 - This well is almost below groundwater target levels for the first time.  The only detected contaminants above target level are Benzene and Total Xylenes, each of which are only one part per billion above the state prescribed groundwater cleanup level:

Benzene -1.2 ug/L March 17, 2011 (91.3 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Ethyl benzene (11.0 ug/L) detected but below cleanup levels March 17, 2011,(565 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Total Xylenes 21.1 ug/L March 17, 2011 (351.9 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Naphthalene (1.2 ug/L) detected but below cleanup levels March 17, 2011, (48.4 ug/L November 4, 2010)

·       MW-5 – This well is also completely below and shows most dramatic reduction of all the wells.

           Benzene -not detected March 17, 2011 (89.8 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Ethyl benzene - not detected March 17, 2011 (525 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Total Xylenes - not detected March 17, 2011 (577 ug/L November 4, 2010)

            Naphthalene - not detected March 17, 2011 (82.8 ug/L November 4, 2010)

Other wells that were sampled on March 17, 2011 include AW-26, AW-27, and DW-11.  The only detected contaminant in any of these three wells is Benzene was found in DW-11 at a concentration of 15.9 ug/L.  This well has fluctuated from below cleanup levels to 25.1 ug/L over the course of the cleanup.   This well and several others will be sampled in the upcoming comprehensive annual sampling event.  This data will be available sometime around early July.

I suspect that once the results come back for the early summer sampling event (sometime in June) we may approve a recommendation to turn the system off for good.

I look forward to sending the next update on June 1, 2011.  Please feel free to call me anytime if you need additional information or have any questions.

Thank you,

District 3 Spring Update‏

Dear Neighbors,

First and foremost, thanks for your support of my re-election and for allowing me the opportunity to serve the residents of District 3 for four more years as a member of the Orlando City Council. As you have heard me express before, I am grateful for the confidence you have placed in me and am humbled by your support—this is truly a privilege I don’t take lightly.
Thanks for the opportunity to provide this e-mail update about some time-sensitive things happening around our community.

Since many of you may subscribe to the Mayor’s City News, you have probably already heard about Google’s search for a City like Orlando to pilot their experimental ultra high speed internet connection (a connection 100 times faster than any that currently exists). We know that we are well-positioned to offer a wonderful testing ground for this type of technology. In fact, our City government just went ‘Google,’ migrating all of our employees from Lotus Notes to internet-based Google Mail for a savings of more than $200,000 annually. Please see the Mayor’s recent City News blast for ways we need your help (by March 26th) to show Google all of the amazing things our residents could accomplish with ultra high speed internet capability.

With so much mis-information swirling around this year’s Census, I just wanted to provide a little factual information for you to consider as we approach April 1st, Census Day. While I understand the many reasons how and why so many are skeptical of their government, I want to clarify that the mandatory part of the census, which should be arriving in your mailbox this week if it hasn’t already, is just 10 questions and not one asks for your social security number, your income, or any other extremely personal information. If you do receive anything in the mail, even if it looks official, that asks anything of that nature, don’t fill it out.

Below is the official website for the Census that further explains its purposes, the types of questions you will be asked and why (such as your race and whether you own or rent your residence).

http://2010.census.gov/2010census/

With the start of Daylight Savings Time, we all now have more time to spend outdoors enjoying all of the great Spring events taking place around our Great City.
